Kahn notches four hits, 'Cats fall to Washington State

Linfield had a rare opportunity to face Division I talent and notched nine hits in a 9-1 loss to Washington State Wednesday at Bailey-Brayton Field.

Fourth-year head coach Dan Spencer spent three years at Washington State, serving as the Cougars' associate head coach, pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.

The Wildcats' lone run of the game came in the sixth inning when Tyler Marr hit a bases-loaded RBI groundout to score Jake Hoskins. Danny Kahn put on a hitting clinic for the Linfield lineup, going 4 for 4 from the two-hole.

But the Cougars racked up 13 hits, including four home runs by Elijah Hainline in the fourth inning, Kyle Russell and Sam Brown in the fifth, and Jake Harvey in the eighth. The shortstop Russell went 3 for 4 with two runs and three RBI.

Nick Alder took the loss for the 'Cats, allowing one run on two hits in his fourth start of the season. Spencer Burgess and Brian Mannion threw scoreless innings in relief with one strikeout apiece. Jhett Jacquot took the mound in the sixth inning and picked up four outs of scoreless baseball.
